The Canadian
wilderness, soft
and dream-like,
in watercolour.
Romantic, atmospheric landscapes drawn from a lifetime of sketching the Canadian countryside — from the woods of Quebec to the coast of British Columbia, and home again to the prairies.
About the artist
Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Debby discovered watercolours while studying Interior Design at the University of Manitoba. Following graduation, she lived in Montreal and the surrounding area, where she explored the Quebec countryside to sketch and paint — finding it a welcome contrast to the high-pressured, competitive world of design.
From Quebec she moved to Vancouver, and with each move her love of the Canadian wilderness grew, along with her need to express it through watercolour. Debby manipulates the medium to convey landscapes as romantic, dream-like forms.
Now back in Winnipeg, she continues to paint from her home studio, working from sketches and memories gathered across decades of travel through the Canadian landscape. Originals and a small number of giclée prints are available by inquiry.
"I love the challenge of watercolours. You take control of it; it takes control of you… expecting the unexpected. It is an escape from the technical world of design, yet still maintains the challenge and creativity."
